the big picture - the end of poor picture quality

Do your TV pictures look fuzzy or break-up? Are they ghosting or snowy, superimpose across a few stations, have lines through them or are pixilated? Does your TV sound buzz, squeal or sound muffled? Do you just want to get all the additional freeview TV channels or improve your SBS or Briz 31 reception?

Yes? It is time to have your TV antenna looked at by The Big Picture Team.

Brisbane antennas Toowoomba aerials

TV antennas are remarkably sturdy considering all they go through. But over time rain, hail, severe wind, those darned cockatoos and galahs & tree branches can damage even the best constructed TV aerial. With our baking hot sun, plastic TV antenna cables and connectors can become brittle and break – particularly the old ribbon style TV antenna cables. And with the changeover to digital television, many of the older antennas and cables simply can't cope. They are not digital ready – so the first you may notice that there is something not quite right with your digital TV reception is when you buy a new digital box for your old TV or you plug in your stunning new digital LCD or plasma TV. Imagine you've planned a great night watching the State of Origin, Olympics or Wimbledon with a few mates on your new set – only to have fuzzy pictures and poor sound.

That's where The Big Picture can help. You see we are digital aerial specialists. We understand what it takes to get you the perfect picture. We don't just grab the first TV antenna and bung it on your roof – we take the time to diagnose the many issues that could be affecting your digital reception or picture and sound quality, and recommend the right TV antenna and additional support equipment for your house and your site.

We take the time to consider your unique situation using our unique 10 point TV Antenna Assessment before we recommend the best solution for your needs. So what do we consider?

Our BIG 10 Point TV Antenna Assessment

Our BIG 10 Point TV Antenna Assessment

  1. What TV channels do you want to get now & in the future – do you also want your antenna to double as a digital FM antenna as well receive as VHF UHF & freeview TV digital channels?
  2. What is the signal strength of each of these channels on your site?
  3. What is between you and the signal towers (hills, tall buildings, trees, high voltage power lines, radars)?
  4. What interference is there in the area (local amateur radio, CB, two-way base, high voltage power lines)? You may need a filter installed to ensure clear reception and improve your radiofrequency immunity.
  5. How close to the TV and FM signal towers are you? Too far away and you may need a booster to get the best signal, too close and they could overload your other stations, so you may need a filter.
  6. Where on your roof is the precise sweet spot for the best reception for your digital tv aerial? It may be just 2cm to the left of your current aerial or on the other side of the roof.
  7. What are the local government covenants or body corporate restrictions on antenna placement for your area?
  8. What is the correct TV mast height for your particular property and site aspect? The old 4-foot TV aerials were fine for analogue TV – but many people with digital television find they need 8-foot TV aerials.
  9. How may TV outlets do you have (or want to have) in your home? Each outlet reduces your overall signal strength so you may need a booster.
  10. If you do need an amplifier booster – which type do you need (a masthead one, one in the roof if you have multiple occupancy buildings) or portable ones (if you are renting). As you can see, there is a lot to think about to make sure you get the right TV antenna for you.

but specifically... what does the big picture do when we visit your property?

  • We start by checking your existing TV aerial. It may be that there are just some simple adjustments or repairs that are needed to have you in the clear again. We won't sell you things you don't need.
  • We then test your signal strength in different areas on your roof, including carrier to noise ratios and digital bit error rates (BER). We look for the highest possible signal strength and signal quality. All of our technicians carry state of the art digital signal testing equipment (not just the analogue testing equipment that you find with some of the budget operators).
  • Depending on our test findings we assess your needs for an amplifier booster, filter, different mast height and upgraded wall sockets.
  • We provide you with our recommendation on the best high quality digital ready antennas, as well as TV aerial location and any additional equipment you may need. We always try to install antennas towards the rear of the house wherever possible to reduce visual impact from the street.
  • Once we have your go-ahead, we securely fasten your new TV antenna and mast to your roof, ensuring any guy wires are firmly fixed and do not interfere with your TV reception.
  • We run super heavy-duty RG6 quad shield coaxial cable which is digital ready to your antenna and your connections. Even though this cable is tough, we ensure it is not stretched or damaged during installation by even one careless moment as this will affect your signal quality. We then clamp the cable securely to your aerial and property to ensure it cannot whip around in high winds.
  • Any additional equipment such as boosters, splitters or filters are then installed.
  • We fine-tune the aerial direction and system to ensure the best possible result.
  • We test the image at each of your TV outlets to ensure crystal clear pictures.
  • Finally we clean up to leave your home sparkling clean (that means no hand prints, dust or bits of wire are left lying around once we have gone).

The Big Picture takes the time to do the job right. After all we are the Brisbane TV aerial and Toowoomba TV aerial experts.

But if you don't believe us, listen to what other people have to say:

The Big Picture were highly recommended by a friend, and they lived up to that recommendation. The technican not only turned up on time, he was even a few minutes early - unheard of ! He was knowledgable, efficient and personable, and patiently explained the cause of my problems with reception and the various solutions. The result - a perfect picture. Best of all, the cost was moderate and certainly good value for money. Well done Dan!

Dear Mark

Just a quick note to say that we were very happy with the service we  received on Tuesday. A number of errors were found, and your workman was  more than happy to investigate issues that were discovered. It is very  refreshing to find a company who has answers. So far the reception has  been great, and it is good to know that we can call on your company if does deteriorate.

Regards
